This verse actually goes on to talk about how Israel will fall away and be faithless. The chapter gives an overview of the whole book of Judges and the struggles the next generation of Israel will have. As a gentile, I have yet to be shown where I have a claim to covenant with the Almighty. The Apostolic Writings speak of gentiles being grafted into the olive tree of Israel and that Messiah is the root of that tree, that which gives it life. The covenants were made with Israel. The Most High knew they would fail and fall and yet, He committed to keep them as His people forever. The magnitude of His love and mercy is unimaginable and so hard to understand that I think it has been partially responsible for a lot of bad doctrine.
Our infinitely loving Creator set apart Israel to call all peoples back to Him so He can dwell with us as in Eden.
