Yeshua, looking at him, felt love for him and said to him, “You’re missing one thing. Go, sell whatever you own, give to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come, follow me!”
We all face our own challenges. It is easy to judge others for struggling with things we know no temptation for. It is easy for us to give ourselves a pass for our failings. There is a fundamental lack in all of us and I believe that part of our mission in life is to address that and work on it. I think Messiah was calling out this rich young man and asking him to rise to that challenge. He failed at that time. The text is silent on whether or not he ever returned, but his life didn’t end at that moment and there is a chance he repented and eventually answered that call. You and I have failed many times, but we still have time to be who we are meant to be and do that which is most difficult for us to do.
