Everyone who saw it said, “From the day the people of Isra’el came up from Egypt until now, never has such a thing happened or been seen. What are we going to do about it? Talk it over and decide.”
This is my least favorite part of the Bible. It is vile and senseless. There are no heroes here, as far as I can tell. The old man who echoes Lot is the closest we get. I don’t understand why this is recorded. What purpose does it serve? Is it a warning of what may become of Men if they are given wholly to their flesh? Is it a demonstration of how merciful and Faithful The LORD is, given that he kept faith with Israel and the Tribe of Benjamin even after this depravity? I don’t know. I can’t really draw a conclusion here. Perhaps some of Bible is here for us to wrestle with?
