As Yeshua was saying these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice to call out, “How blessed is the mother that gave birth to you and nursed you from her breast!” But he said, “Far more blessed are those who hear the word of G-d and obey it!”
I love this interaction. It is an example of the conventional being turned on its head. Yes indeed, it is a good, beautiful and blessed station that Miriam had. She lived righteously and was chosen by the Father. That is all good. It is easy for us to get hung up on the accomplishments of other people. It is easy to put the Greats on a pedestal. The problem is that it is easy for us to look at them and stop looking at ourselves. It is easy for us imagine we can rest on the accomplishments of others. It is more difficult to look to what they did and resolve to follow in their footsteps. May we have the dedication to live righteously for the sake of Heaven.
