They shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Put him to death on the stake!” Pilate said to them, “You want me to execute your king on a stake?” The head cohanim answered, “We have no king but the Emperor.”
Israel is supposed to be a nation set apart. They originally had no king. The Father was to be their king, but when they asked for an earthly king, the Torah was already filled with rules for him. The King of Israel is to be born of the tribe of Judah, to be humble, to write himself a Torah scroll and have it carried with him at all times. Sameul the prophet lamented when Israel demanded a king because he felt he was being rejected by them. The Father told him that Israel was not rejecting Samuel, but The LORD. The head cohanim publicly lauding a pagan idolator as the only king over Israel is wrong on so many levels. As believers, no matter who wields power on earth we owe our allegiances to no one but the One True King, may He be enthroned forever.
