Scriptural Meditation- Isaiah 1:16-17

Wash yourselves clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing evil, learn to do good! Seek justice, relieve the oppressed, defend orphans, plead for the widow.

Among Israel’s sins was a lack of basic morality. They didn’t care for widows, orphans and the poor. They oppressed the lesser people among them. The rebuke from the prophet indicts the hypocrisy of bringing offerings in the Temple while being greedy, selfish and unjust. The solution is for them to repent, to be moral, to be selfless and help others. I’m not saying the Most High would have been pleased if they were faithful in all morality but they worshiped idols instead, but I think a righteous idolater has more going for him than a monotheist riddled with iniquity. Our Heavenly Father demands hearts devoted to Him and His ways which are just, loving and merciful. May we be transformed through His love into doers who make the world a better place for our brothers and sisters.
