Parashat Vayikra (“And He Called”) is the first Torah portion in the Book of Leviticus, G-d tells Moses about the sacrifices offered in the Mishkan (Tabernacle). Among these are sacrifices entirely burnt on the altar, meal offerings made of flour and oil, peace offerings, and sacrifices brought for sinning inadvertently.

In the Haftorah, Isaiah speaks of the futility of idolatry and affirms that the LORD will redeem Israel to Himself.

In the Apostolic Writings, Messiah speaks of the vital importance of the heart in and out of the Holy Temple.

The first portion of the book of Vayikra/Leviticus is Vayikra, which means “And He Called.” This is the twenty-fourth Torah Portion.
