The fifth portion of the book of Bamidbar/Numbers is Korach, which means “Korach/Bald.” This is the thirty-eighth Torah Portion.
Parashat Korach recounts the rebellion of Korach (a cousin of Moses and Aaron), Dathan, Abiram, and 250 of their followers. Some rebels are swallowed by the ground, while others are consumed by a fire from G-d and others die in a plague. The portion ends by describing gifts given to Priests and Levites.
In the Haftorah, Samuel warns the people that if they or their king rebel against the LORD, they will suffer.
In the Apostolic Writings, the chief Priests declare they have “no King but Caesar” and demand that Messiah be crucified.
