The eight portion of the book of Bamidbar/Numbers is Pinchas, which means “Phineas/Mouth of Brass.” This is the forty-first Torah Portion.
Pinchas opens with G-d’s promise of a “covenant of peace” for the zealot Pinchas, followed by a census. The daughters of Tzelofchad request and receive new laws regarding inheritance. G-d instructs Moses to prepare Joshua for leadership, and G-d describes sacrifices brought daily and on special occasions.
In the Haftorah, Elijah flees after killing Jezebel’s false prophets. The LORD blesses him and he takes on Elisha as his Disciple.
In the Apostolic Writings, Messiah drives the merchants from the Temple.
