Cleave to the Word and see that the Law of the LORD is good and that His promises to Israel stand firm forever. Through Messiah, you are grafted in to Israel, so live like it.

The second portion of the book of Devarim/Deuteronomy is Va’etchanan, which means “I Pleaded.” This is the forty-fifth Torah Portion.

Va’etchanan (“I Pleaded”) opens as Moses describes his pleading with G-d to be allowed into the Land of Israel. Moses warns the Israelites not to pursue idolatry and recounts the giving of the Ten Commandments. The portion also contains the Shema, a declaration of faith and a central text in Jewish prayer.

In the Haftorah, the prophet speaks words of comfort Israel, saying all her sins are forgiven.

In the Apostolic Writings, John the Immerser chastises Israel and exhorts them to repent in word and deed, living out Torah so they will be blessed.

TORAH: DUTERONOMY 3:23-7:11

HAFTORAH: ISAIAH 40:1-26

APOSTLES: LUKE 3:2-15

Now, go study.
