Lech Lecha (“Go Forth”) recounts Abraham’s (here known as Abram) first encounter with G-d, his journey to Canaan, the birth of his son Ishmael, the covenant between him, his descendants, and G-d, and G-d’s commandment to circumcise the males of his household.

In the Haftorah, Isaiah reminds Israel of Abraham’s faithfulness, how he left the land of his fathers, and was given strength to conquer the four kings. G-d promises to defeat the idolatrous enemies of Israel

In the Apostolic Writings, Messiah alludes to having met Abraham.

The third portion of the book of Beresheet/Genesis is Lech Lecha, which means “Get Yourself Out.” This is Torah Portion 3 of 54.

TORAH: Genesis 12:1-17:27

HAFTORAH: Isaiah 40:27-41:16

APOSTOLIC: John 8:51-58
